In 2002 - 2003 the Evangelical Church of Waldbröl, Germany, just east of Köln (Cologne), undertook a complete redesign and construction of the interior of its mother church. They commissioned me to design and carve the pulpit and the large cross three meters high to be hung from the back wall of the main sanctuary (we had to scale it down a little bit to transport it through the churches largest entry way). They also commissioned me to carve a special sculpture from my Nimbus series called "Triad" because for them it has the obvious relationship to the Trinity within the Christian beliefs. I chose a French calk stone named Massanges for all three aspects of the commission for its similarity in color and feeling to the stone used to construct the original altar which was retained in the reconstruction and which I believe is no longer quarried.
